Starts With the Design

When clients invite us into their home to talk about new window furnishings, it is rarely just about a measure and quote. At MG Curtains and Blinds, every project starts with the design and how the space is going to feel, function and flow through the cooler months ahead.

Large living areas are often the heart of the home. They are where families gather, where natural light pours through wide sliding doors and expansive windows, and where comfort matters most as the temperature drops. Refreshing these spaces before winter is not only about warmth, but about creating a room that feels welcoming, layered and beautifully finished.

One of the biggest design considerations in these homes is stacking. With large openings, curtains need to look stunning both when closed and when fully open. Thoughtful stacking allows the fabric to sit neatly without overwhelming the glass or blocking valuable natural light. It is one of those details that can completely transform the final look of a room.

The design process involves more than selecting a colour or fabric sample. We carefully consider the size of the room, ceiling height, how the sliding doors operate, the amount of light coming into the space and how the furnishings will frame the windows when drawn back. Soft sheers can create warmth and texture while still allowing natural light to filter through during the day, while layered blockout curtains can help insulate the room and provide privacy in the evenings.

In large open-plan living spaces, consistency is also important. Coordinating the flow between multiple windows and doors helps create a calm and cohesive finish. When designed well, window furnishings become part of the architecture of the room rather than simply an addition to it.

The most rewarding part of the process is seeing a space come together in a way that feels effortless. Beautiful fabrics, thoughtful stacking and carefully planned installation all work together to create a living space that is both practical and visually stunning for the seasons a
